- POLARBEAR project is one of the projects for ground-based CMB polarization experiment with a large detector array. The main object of POLARBEAR is to detect degree scale odd-parity (B-mode) polarization patterns. The B-mode is created by the primordial gravitational waves (PGW) generated during the inflation. The detection of the PGW B-mode contains on the initial condition of the universe (e.g. energy scale of inflation). On the other hand, the (gravitational lensing) GL B-mode contains on the structure formation (e.g. total neutrino mass).
We started the science observation in early 2012, and the third year observation is now ongoing. In parallel of the POLARBEAR-1 observation, we're developing a new receiver system, POLARBEAR-2 (PB-2). The PB-2 receiver employs 7588 Al-Mn bilayer transition edge sensor (TES) bolometers at 250 mK on the focal plane with a diameter of 360 mm and observes at two frequencies (95 and 150 GHz) simultaneously. This receiver will be mounted on a telescope of the Simons Array at the Atacama desert in Chile in early 2016. In this talk. we plan to explain the CMB science, results of POLARBEAR-1, and progress of POLARBEAR-2 development.
