Abstract: The worldwide effort to detect and analyze gravitational-waves from astrophysical sources is coming to the end of the so-called first generation. The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory
(LIGO) has just recently decommissioned it's last remaining detector and is now focusing all efforts on building the second generation detectors known as Advanced LIGO. I will describe the recent efforts
to prototype Advanced LIGO technologies on the first generation detectors. These include the use of an Output Mode Cleaner and DC Readout as well as squeezed light injection. I will also discuss current progress to construct the second generation gravitational-wave
detectors as part of an international network
expected to make the first detections of gravitational-waves from space.
